When parents divorce, children are always affected. Keeping children’s best interests a priority can be difficult in the midst of logistical and legal battles among divorced parents. Parent coordination is an alternative intervention to resolving conflict that reduces the dependence on judges and lawyers to make decisions involving children in high conflict custody scenarios. A parent coordinator often assists in rebuilding or facilitating parental communication. A parent coordinator can be appointed by the court or hired by parents who voluntarily agree that parent coordination is necessary.
In our role as parent coordinator, we meet with both parents on a regular basis to help them work through issues and questions related to their parenting responsibilities, manage their parenting plans and facilitate (or, when necessary, rebuild) parental communication.
